Those who came to Limelight, BaCA’s monthly street party, enjoyed a performance by pedal steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier. He is a bayou blues musician and performed his soulful, lightning-fast slide work. He recently performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
Suzanne Haltermann, spokesperson for BaCA, was glad to see people enjoying the show. “He began his career playing in church. He is an amazing performer.”
In the BaCA East Gallery, there was a presentation of “Brazilian Eyes” photography exhibit featuring works of 40 Brazilian photographers – renowned professionals along with amateurs – all with a keen interest in the art form. The West Gallery contained a showcase of the Haitian exhibit, “syèl ba,” by painter, sculptor and installation artist Asser Saint-Val. Local sculptor, jewelry-maker and carver Cindy Wong displayed her handmade Mother Earth Arts artisan goodies.
Jessica Salas gave a class to children producing artwork. Nicole Kay and Anthony Kay of Spanx the Hog served BBQ pork and sundaes. Sharron Demarest, a photographer, displayed her work as part of the Broward Art Guild at the Pompano Beach CRA Business Resource Center.
